AAC - Gold Mine Established

Sunday Times, Sunday 5th June, 1898

The comprehensive and systematic exploration
of auriferous or other mineralised portions of the
colony by means of adequate capital, judiciously
expended, has ever found an advocate in this
journal. We are consequently always pleased when
we hear of efforts being made in the direction
indicated, and amongst those whose work of this
character is to be commended is the Anglo-Aus-
tralian Company. We learn now, on reliable
authority, that its last example of the kind is at
Mount Boppy in the Cobar district. It is quite on
the cards that this may turn out to be a great
gold mine. For some years it has been "scratch-
ed" in the usual way, but now, the, company,
under Mr. Eissler's direction, are sinking several
shafts to test its true value, and already , a depth
of 200ft has been reached. The management has
no desire as yet to express a definite opinion as to
the size and worth of the ore bodies until the
explorations are in a more advanced stage ; but
from all we learn, it is not unlikely that the re-
sults will be highly satisfactory. Those, like our-
selves, who know Mount Boppy, will not be at all
surprised if it turns out well as a gold mine. The
hill has all the appearances that generally accom-

pany auriferous country.
