The Burra Burra Copper Mining Company, No
Liability, Mount Boppy, near Cobar, N.S.W. — The
mine manager reports that the contractors for the
sinking of the main winding shaft have worked full
time for the week, making fair progress. The country
is still unchanged being of a hard nature which
makes the sinking necessarily slow, and timbered 11ft.
The old workings upon the upper levels now being
completely dry, it has enabled me to have all spare
timber hauled from them and make an examination
of the lode formation. 'There are 15 to 20
tons of good grade ore broken at tie bottom, which
could be raised by the erection of a whip or windlass
upon the old shaft if thought advisable, but as the
board has decided to open out at the 200ft level in the
main shaft I would not advise any further expendi-
ture upon the old one, preferring to leave the ore in.
the stopes until reached from the lower levels. The
ore broken is showing sulphides freely, and have sent
samples of s[o]me to Cobar for assay. The formation
undoubtedly widens in depth, having increased from
3ft at the surface to about 14ft at the 100ft level. I
am of opinion that the 200ft level will show a much
stronger body of ore, as everything points to that
result from the formation exposed.
