Several Severe Stabbings

Sydney Morning Herald, Friday 13th November, 1891.

(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.)
COBAR, Thursday.
The Nyngan-Cobar railway is fast approaching
Cobar. The contractors now carry passengers and
goods to Mount Boppy, 20 miles from Cobar. They
expect to be finished in April. About 700 men are
employed on the works. Shanties are very numerous
along the line, and drunken quarrels are of almost
everyday occurrence. There is no police protection,
which is badly needed. Several severe stabbing cases
have lately occurred on the line, but fortunately none
proved fatal. The people of Cobar are very anxious
to know when the railway station will be commenced,
and blame the Government for the delay.
